INDIAN spice exporters are keen on generating sales of ginger to Japan, a market which is being served by China, according to Spices Board chairman VJ Kurien. Speaking at a press briefing on the forthcoming Spices Congress, Mr Kurien said the exporters would like to tap the Japanese markets, which were mainly organic. He explained that most of the ginger purchased by Japan is from China, this volume amounting to 100,000 tonnes last year. Mr Kurien also revealed that the board is planning to formulate standards in food safety in the coming years.
