INDIA has set an all-time record in spices exports in 2007/08 by exceeding the $1bn mark in value. During 2007/08, India exported 444,250 tonnes of spices and spice products valued at Rs44.35bn ($1.04bn) VJ Kurien, chairman of the Spices Board said. Exports have shown a growth of 19% in volume and 39% in dollar value. India had exported 373,750 tonnes valued at Rs35.75bn in 2006/07.
